A 'Symbol Of Life'
As part of the Post Economix theme, you will also be able to take part in Sunrise Off-Grid's exciting and unique economic experiment: Inspired by the Totnes and Lewes Pounds, Sunrise Off-Grid is the first festival in the world to use its own 'Transition' currency: the Sunrise SOL. Launched in 2009, the SOLs were a great success at the last Off-Grid.
You can order SOL notes from Bristol Ticket shop at time of purchase, and they will be accepted as a valid currency by all the stalls and traders at the Off-grid Festival from 18th to 21st August 2011. As with the Totnes and Lewes Pounds, the SOL will be a legitimate 'private' currency which - whilst having no official value outside the festival - we will, by mutual consent, treat as roughly equivalent to £1.
There will only be a limited supply of 2,000 notes, which can be acquired in issues of 5 notes in exchange for £5 sterling at the Post Economix's stall in the Transition Tin Village. You can also request SOLs as part of your change from any of the Off-Grid stalls and traders.
"You hold in your hand a powerful tool for economic regeneration ... Pass it round, spend it, envision the potential it embodies ..." from the original Totnes Pound.
Sunrise: Off-Grid is run by Natural Communities CIC in aid of the Natural Communities Foundation. All money raised by Fernhill Farm through the bar, cafe and site fees will go towards the construction of a 40ft roundhouse space for future event and educational use.
Admission Gates will be shut between 10pm and 9am with no exceptions. Ticket Holders may be allowed into a holding compound for a night. Those without tickets will be turned away. Please arrive on time. Activities start from 4pm Thursday afternoon.
Don't Bring:
Food and Drink and Markets: All food and drink purchasable on site is at least 85% organic. There is a general store providing for all your basic needs. The Markets sell a range of ethical, ecological and innovative products. We encourage the use of natural products at all time. You must not use chemical shampoos and soaps in the showers or wash basins — All waste water runs into the natural Reedbed Wet Systems, which offer an ecosystem that would be damaged by use of chemical hygiene products.
Camping and Fire Safety: Due to fire safety regulations tents cannot be erected next to vehicles. Camper Vans and tents must be sited in the appropriate areas. There are designated fire braziers in the camping field, please do not make your own! If the weather is cold we will provide more braziers for extra warmth. Fire Points will be clearly visible and supplied with buckets and water.
General: Disorderly behaviour on site will not be tolerated. Please respect the privacy and peace of others attending the event. Please stay within the boundaries of the festival and do not stray onto land that is not within the festival site. There are plenty of toilets and Urinals on site. Please do not use the hedges or ditches as a toilet!! There is a major reedbed pond system on site, this is out of bounds to the public. Please take care around troughs and other bodies of water — especially with small children. Some fences are electric (these are marked) DO NOT TOUCH!
Lost Children: All lost children (once found) will be taken to the Information Point. Please report a lost child immediately to a steward or a member of the Welfare Team or Children's Area (or anybody with a radio).
Personal Security: Please do not leave valuables in your vehicles. Don't forget to lock up! Be aware of potential trouble-makers. Watch over the tents of your friends and neighbours as well as your own! Communal fires are positioned so as to encourage community camping around them. Please take advantage of this, it is for your own protection.
First Aid and Welfare: The First Aid facilities are marked on the site map, but are fairly basic. In the case of a more serious condition please speak immediately to the nearest steward or security member. They will call for First Aid immediately. Welfare facilities are marked on the map. They are there for the benefit of all, please do not hesitate to visit them for counselling, comfort or just a hot cup of tea.
Recycling: All attendees of the event are encouraged to recycle their waste where possible. Please take all recyclable waste from your campsite to the nearest bin collection point, rather than leaving where it is (better yet, takie it home!) This includes paper, plastic bottles, cardboard and metals. Please pick up any litter you see. Have fun, walk lightly and be inspired!
