TIN VILLAGE
The Tin Village is a travelling model of a Transition Town reflecting all sectors of society. Constructed from local, recycled materials, it will play host to The Off-Grid College, Land and Food, Sustainable Communities, Post-Economics and the Transition Talks.
The Transition Tin Village is a space to explore ideas for a sustainable future, with less reliance on oil, and with more focus on people. Participants can take home to their own towns what interests them and they believe will help their own community. Come to our village, join the lively discussions, and get inspired!

A maloca is an ancestral long house used by the natives of the Amazon in Colombia and Brazil. Each community has a maloca with its own unique characteristics which is used for ceremonies and for meetings of the tribe. The Maloca at Sunrise: Off Grid is situated in a 40ft Dome at the centre of the gathering. Much like the traditional buildings, the Maloca will play host to lively discussions, freeform music & song sharing, bardic circles, food circles and ceremony. After dark it will turn to the traditional tribal pursuit of jamming & drums. The Dynamix Workshops will occur in this venue.
The Universal Mysteries Centre is home to Avalon Rising, Ancient Futures and a solar cinema. The Centre is the nexus of esoteric thought, earth mysteries, ancient cultures and the divinatory arts. It is the place where we explore the great riddles of our existence and of what we find around us. It is a Mystery School, a hub of great minds and magical people. Come here to expand your horizons, explore the outer regions of consciousness and enter the inner mind. The Avalon Rising Conference space will be a place of learning, awakening and education; an ancient 'mystery school' within the Somerset hills. Discover multimedia presentations,film screenings, workshops, skywatching and panel discussions. There will be having an exclusive screening of several new esoteric films with three and a half days of esoterica.Ancient Futures draws the pathways between the old and new, the ancient past and the approaching future. It is about reconnecting ourselves with the roots of our consciousness to find sustainable ways of managing our lives and this Planet. Looking back on the ways of living of our ancestors, we discover portals to a dawning paradigm where we once more connect back with the Earth. Ancient Futures explores the realms of world culture, art and music, entheogens and mind-expanding techniques, myths and cosmologies and ancient techniques of ecstacy.
ZIA SOLAR STAGE
The Zia Solar main stage will play host to a great selection of Off Grid artists and act as the main talks space for our headline speakers.
This year our main stage takes the form of a great big wooden barn at the heart of the site, with a capacity for 500 people.
Artists playing include Seize the Day, Simon Emmerson, Celtech, Spanner Jazz Punks and more! The stage is run entirely on Solar and Wind generated power courtesy of our friends at Zia Solar
This diverse area offers participants a wide range of demonstrations and workshops of traditional crafts and skills, eco-build techniques and new technologies that can help us into a more sustainable future. Learning to create your own craft items is a useful practical skill, and a means to self-expression, you might just discover a whole new side to yourself! There will be opportunities to make your own items or learn and take part in larger building projects - from making bow-top wagons to basic and complex shelter structures. There will also be chances to explore emerging technologies and their uses.
In 2005 the folk at Fernhill cleared out the original farm quarry that had been filled with scrap and rubbish to create a wildlife pond next to the new kitchen garden. It is now emerging as a sunken micro-climate of compost and cultivations and is taking on a second role of "therapy Garden" for visitors with 'Let Nature Feed Your Senses'. The Glory Hole Garden plays host to Off-Grid's permaculture area. Rather than bringing in a mobile garden, we will be working with whats already at the farm to teach, demonstrate and share skills.
Off-Grid is all about learning new skills and expanding horizons - as much with the kids as with the adults! The Academy of Harmonic Learning is situated in the kids area and is the hub for a range of fun workshops and activities for kids of all ages. Some of the features for this year should include: Storytelling; Interactive Stories through Movement; Dynamic Dance; Puppet Making; Gardening; Kids Yoga (with Yoga Bugs); Kung Fu; Superfood; Tai Chi and Capoeira. There will also be a Forest School holding regular sessions.
