Capoeira with Filhos De Angola
Capoeira Angola is an art form: a dynamic fusion of music, dance, acrobatics, game play and martial art. Its roots are in African tribal culture but it was first developed on the plantations of Brazil, as a form of cultural resistance to slavery, and as a literal tool for liberation.
Today Capoeira enjoys world-wide recognition and popularity. Students train the movements, rhythms and songs, which make up the performance of a roda (circle). Players enter the roda in pairs and improvise a game of physical and rhythmic interplay.
Angola is a form of capoeira that strives to preserve the African roots of the art: the rich musical tradition, the unity of music and movement, the playful nature of the game, respect for ritual and knowledge of its history.
Filhos De Angola originate from Salvador, Bahia in Brazil. This group are based in St Werburghs, Bristol.
Conscious Communication - Laurel Pyne
Conscious Communication is a system of feeling and thinking that leads us express ourselves more clearly, honestly and safely. Works well in both personal and professional situations. It is a way of thinking and speaking differently that results in people hearing and understanding each others real feelings and needs. It helps one realise when one is criticising, blaming and doing a guilt trip and offers you tools to get to the the true issues without causing more pain. Using Conscious Communication tends to increase the depth of interactions and helps situations where we may be feeling stuck or that the other person is being impossible! You could say that developing Conscious Communication can do for language what organic growing and Bio-dynamics do for agriculture – seems like a lot of work at the beginning but the results more than repay the effort! In this introductory session we’ll have a look at the basics of Conscious Communication and then apply them to real-life situations that you suggest. Subjects that often arise include giving/receiving criticism, arguments about “small” issues, why some people really wind us up and the causes of anger.
