Green Village

THE VILLAGE GREEN

The centre of the festival is The Village Green. Here is the open space to gather and meet, enjoy a break from the workshops and entertainments and just Be. The Village Green hosts The Maloca - our central meeting house, the Central Fire, flypitchers peddling their wares, Temples and Peace Dome, Firewalks and Ceremony and much more. The Opening Ceremony will take place in the Village Green at 9pm on Thursday evening to welcome everybody to this new event.

THE MALOCA

A maloca is an ancestral long house used by the natives of the Amazon in Colombia and Brazil. Each community has a maloca with its own unique characteristics which is used for ceremonies and for meetings of the tribe. The Maloca at Sunrise: Off Grid is situated in a 40ft Dome in the centre of the Village Green. Much like the traditional buildings, the Maloca will play host to lively discussions, freeform music & song sharing, bardic circles, food circles and ceremony. After dark it will turn to the traditional tribal pursuit of jamming & drums.

The Maloca is the Centre of Sunrise: Off Grid, its purpose to inspire and unite, bringing us all together to take part in freeform flowing discussion, visioning and shared experience. The discussions will be based on a design which allows selected panelists and experts to begin the debate and offer their points of view and knowledge, but then allow in anybody who wishes to speak through a concentric circular seating arrangement. The discussions can then ebb and flow as required with new voices being heard and everybody a participant, be they speaker, questioner or listener.

FIREWALKING

Anybody who attended the Sunrise Celebration closing ceremony will remember the truly awesome sight of people dancing across blazing embers, as enraptured as the audience themselves. Sunrise: Off Grid will once provide an opportunity to take part in one of these magical ceremonies hosted by the marvellous Wizard Well Being.

Sunrise events always provide ways for you to push yourself further than you do in normal life, breaking down those barriers we have put up between one another, that prevent us from really experiencing the full magic of life with each other and with our self. Max and Lisa, of Wizard, are 100% professional and very experienced firewalkers and have even had their ceremonies presented on BBC television. As places will be limited on this experience and it is a big energy work, there will be a charge of £25 a time. The firewalks are an amazing spectacular and will provide a fitting climax to the event, when joined by dozens of percussionists, firedancers and participants on the Sunday night.
